I-90 Cup Rivalry Series Renews This Sunday

One of the oldest rivalries in pro lacrosse is the Buffalo Bandits and Rochester Knighthawks. That rivalry continues on with the kids as the Jr. Bandits and Jr. Knighthawks compete for the I-90 Cup this weekend at Onondaga Nation Arena in Nedrow, NY.

The Jr. Knighthawks have swept the rivalry series each of it’s first three years. The two-game series has been held each summer since 2019 as a tune-up for both teams before heading to the prestigious Jr. NLL tournament in Oakville, Ontario. The game experience for each team has proven invaluable for both teams.

Last summer, the U13, U15, and U17 Jr. Bandits each dropped both games against the Jr. Knighthawks. Coaches were able to use the games as a way to make final adjustments heading into the Jr. NLL Tournament. “Getting a few games in always helps the coaches see what they’ve got. We spend all summer practicing, but to get live reps against another team can open your eyes to see what might need to be tweaked in the coaching plan.” said Dan Ristine who oversees the Jr. Bandits program. The game experience helped the U13 Jr. Bandits win the programs first Jr. NLL Tournament.

Jr. Bandits teams are coached by Bandits players Chase Fraser, Tehoka Nanticoke, Brandon Robinson, Zach Belter, and Evan Constantopoulos.
